Description
Twelve-year old cactus grown from seed in my greenhouse, south of FranceLocation of item is FRANCE.
Shipping ONLY to Europe and U.K.
A spineless cactus from northern Mexico - it used to be quite common there but cactus hunters have decimated the population, as they have done for other some other rare species throughout the Americas. Many cactus growers propagate this rare plant and so help to keep the species from extinction. It is quite easy to grow from seed, as this one was, but they are quite slow growing. This specimen is about 12 years old and measures about 57mm diameter. It has been flowering a few times a year for the past 3-4 years, the species flowers after every watering during the growing season, May to September. This one has just flowered, and will form a fruit with viable seeds next spring.
For shipping I will remove the pot and wash off the soil mixture, and trim the fine roots, and let the plant dry for a few days, so there will be about a week delay in shipping. To re-pot in this season you can let the plant dry for several more weeks, cool, well ventilated and out of direct sunlight, this species enjoys a cool dry winter and will shrink considerably. Then plant in a light soil mixture such as recommended at

Do not water now, but start to water beginning in the early spring, at first just a little. Let the soil dry out mostly between waterings. All cactus plants are easily damaged if the soil is wet all the time. Do not put the plant in direct full sunlight outdoors, my plants have been grown in a greenhouse under glass with diffuse light. All cactus need a rest in the winter: cool temperature and little to no water. This species does require much light, but in the wild always grows partially shaded by other desert plants. Try to achieve a similar situation. I can't provide CITES papers or Phytosanitary certificate, nor take responsibility for any Customs problems, so shipping is limited to Europe and U.K. So please buy only if you accept these conditions!
